The pictures are a leaf spring-turned small knife for a young adult, it’s got a rounded edge with a Bocote and Brass handle. This knife is representative of a few things. It’s one of the first public commissions that the Forge took on. It’s one of the first blades produced for the calendar year 2018, and it’s one of the first blades produced since the Smith decided to try and make this a full-time job. Representation is important, but it doesn’t have to be at the core of everything you do. This knife was a project for a friend’s son, or at least that is all it started as. Now, it represents the first step down what could become a life-changing road.
Is the blade representative of the Forge’s quality of work? No. Is it perhaps representative of the Smith’s work ethic? Not that either. But it stands as the first among many, and a point against which to measure success. That’s something.
